Dunnet Forestry Trust: Forestry Development Manager
Dunnet Forestry Trust is seeking a new Forestry Development Manager.
The primary focus for the new post is to develop the volunteering programme at DFT and increase public access to and use of Dunnet Community Forest.
The post is for 20 hours per week at a rate of £13.45 per hour. The project will last for 5 years initially with the hope that it will continue after that.
The key responsibilities of the role will include:
- Developing and promoting volunteering opportunities in the Forest. This will build on our established programme of weekly Green Gym activities, and will specifically include:

- Developing, promoting and co-ordinating activities in the Forest by schools, children’s nurseries, playgroups, and the public in general.
- A focus on providing All Ability activities to include wheelchair users and others who may not feel able to use the Forest currently.
- Assisting the Board in planning and implementing further projects now that the Forest is owned by the community, specifically including the setting up of a team to run our expanded tree nursery once it is complete.
PVG registration will be mandatory if the appointee is not already registered. After appointment, the new FDO will assume responsibility for the promotion and administration of the Forest’s Safeguarding Policy, including any PVG registration needed of volunteers who will be working with children and vulnerable adults.
They will be trained in the use of Forest equipment including the Kubotas and quad bike, for which a current full UK driving licence will be required. There will be the opportunity to undertake a chainsaw training course. Completion of a Forest First Aid Course will be mandatory.
