Glengarry Community Woodlands: Community Woodland Officer
Glengarry Community Woodlands was set up in 2016 after the community purchased a 31hectare forest in Invergarry. Since its purchase by the community, management of the woodland has focused mainly on harvesting timber, setting up a firewood business, and delivery of a community engagement programme. GCW is now in the process of establishing a forest-cabin social enterprise in the woodland.
GCW is now seeking a Community Woodland Officer to maintain the delivery of existing projects at the community woodland, and to support new developments. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, energetic, and enthusiastic about community woodlands. Ideally, they will have training in and/or experience of delivering environmental education or Forest School, as well as experience of working with communities in a development capacity. They will be able to meet the physical challenges of running a firewood business, and will be able to demonstrate competency at using a chainsaw and other relevant machinery and tools.
The successful candidate will be employed for 21–28 hours per week and will be based at the community woodland Depot in Invergarry, Lochaber (salary will be paid on a pro rata basis at 26,000/annum FTE). Although the majority of work will be site-based at the community woodland, flexible working arrangements and some home-working may be negotiated by arrangement. The successful candidate may be required to work some weekends or evenings.
The closing date for applications is 12pm Friday 8th July. Current CV and covering letter outlining the candidate’s ability to perform the main tasks, and demonstrating the essential and desirable experience, skills and attributes should be sent to: Tom Cooper tom@glengarry.org.uk
Interviews will be held in person at the Old Forestry Depot on week beginning Mon 18th July (TBC). Interviews can be conducted remotely upon request.
