Borders Forest Trust Vacancies: Wild Heart Site Manager & Woodland Advisor

Borders Forest Trust (BFT) is a leading Scottish conservation charity, which has been restoring native woodland, and associated natural habitats, for the benefit of both nature and people for more than twenty-five years now. Over that time BFT have planted more than 2 million native trees across the South of Scotland.

BFT is now recruiting for two roles to join a small, enthusiastic and dynamic team directly contributing to restoring native woodlands and reviving woodland culture in some of Scotland’s most beautiful ‘wilderness.’ Both posts report directly to the Head of Land Management at BFT.

The Wild Heart Site Manager is a new post established to ensure the high-quality delivery of land management plans across BFT’s three Wild Heart sites in the Southern Uplands near Moffat. The Site Manager will manage the Wild Heart Site Officers, and other direct delivery staff, and requires someone with exceptional organisational skills.

The Woodland Advisor post is funded in collaboration with Woodland Trust Scotland, and is responsible for developing and supporting new native woodland planting schemes amongst private landowners and farmers, as well as identifying existing ancient woodlands suitable to be brought into conservation management. The role will involve considerable travel around the Scottish Borders on site visits.

Both roles involve a balance between home/office and outdoor work, requiring candidates with a mix of skills including excellent communication; an aptitude for ‘hands on’ outdoor conservation; and a passion for working with people.

Applications with a CV and Covering Letter should be made by 11.59pm on Sunday 26th June 2022 to recruitment@bordersforesttrust.org. Interviews are expected to be held between 5-7th July 2022 in the Scottish Borders.
