Citizen Science in Community Woodlands Workshop, 17 May 10.30-11.30

The Community Woodlands Association is hosting a free, online workshop to explore how community woodlands groups can contribute to ongoing research projects on climate change, tree diseases and ancient trees in the UK. We are joined by Fritha West from the Conservation Outcomes and Evidence team at the Woodland Trust. Fritha will discuss current citizen science projects at the Woodland Trust, focusing on Nature's Calendar which is one of the world's longest running citizen science projects, dating back to the 1700s. Nature’s Calendar focuses on the timing of natural events and most recently how they are influenced by climate change.

Fritha will explain why more recorders are needed in Scotland, how to get involved and what you can expect from the project. She will also discuss the Observatree project – which aims to protect UK trees, woods and forests from existing or new pests and diseases; and the Ancient Tree Inventory – which maps the oldest trees in the UK.

Please contact Joanna Rodgers (joanna@communitywoods.org) to register for this event.
